Informatics Vocational School is one of the vocational high schools that pioneered the establishment of the first informatics school under attack. In the midst of the development of the progress of information technology in the city of Serang, the founder of this foundation built a computer laboratory consisting of several computers in it. The purpose of this study is to analyze the local area netword (LAN) network in the SMK. The methods applied in writing this journal are observation, interviews and literature. The results of this study obtained in the informatics vocational school laboratory using a star topology where the advantages of this star topology are that damage to one channel will only affect the network on that channel and the station that is adrift, the security level is high, resistant to busy network traffic, additional and station reduction can be done easily, control access to changes. The conclusion of this research is that the equipment used by the Informatics Vocational School of Serang City in building computer network systems such as LAN networks in general, namely, personal computers (PCs), CAT - 5 UTP cables, RJ - 45 connectors, switches, servers, LAN / NIC cards, Internet Service Provider (ISP) devices, and so on. The problem that generally occurs in the computer network system in the laboratory of SMK Informatika Serang is only an internet connection problem from the internet service provider. It can be said that the problems that occur in the computer laboratory of the Serang Informatics Vocational School are in external problems, namely internet service providers
